I went with a good friend to Big Lake in St Albert to see if there were any birds yet. Well yes! The biggest treat was the Tundra Swans in one of the smaller pools. It was also good to see the red-winged blackbirds, a flock of American Avocets, Northern Shovellers, a pair of Red-tailed Hawks, Mergansers, Coots, Mallards, great Blue Heron, and so on.We were out in the windy but relatively warm day for a few hours and came back sore but refreshed and satisfied with the day’s discoveries..
It is very dry and water levels low.Happy to see the grass fires from earlier in the week are extinguished.you may have heard in the news about a fire tornado chasing a member of the fire crew right into the water.
Here are some photos.
What a great collection and all in one day!

That’s what they called it in the paper and though it was smaller it looked like a tornado mostly made out of smoke.
